Online Labs

Description of Event:

Ron Krempasky presented: After years of experimenting with different science laboratory approaches and delivery models for distance learning, a growing number of institutions are now convinced that high quality science labs can be offered for many online science courses including but not limited to Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Microbiology, Natural Science and Physics. We will discuss existing science laboratory options in distance learning, including hybrid labs, computer simulations and virtual labs, "kitchen" labs, remote access labs, plus instructor-generated and commercial laboratory kits.
Shan Huang presented: Breaking new grounds - an attempt to put an existing classroom Astronomy lab with many hands-on activities online. What are the successes and where did we trip? How did students learn and what did they say? Join our discussion to find out and share your experience with everyone.

Creating Hybrid Courses

Description of Event:
In this session, four instructors of blended (hybrid) courses at Columbus State Community College will discuss the design process including technological and pedagogical issues, the challenges experienced with the blended courses, and the successful outcomes. The session presenters, representing the English, Science and Massage Therapy disciplines, will share their individual experiences with the blended course modality, illuminating some of the commonalities as well as their unique experiences within specific academic areas.
